As TClarke’s revenues and order book continue to grow, Group CEO Mark Lawrence explores the kind of projects that have made up this growth.
Success on our route to £500m revenue
“People who follow TClarke will know that we have been in growth mode for a number of years and that our target of £500m revenue, which we set out a few years ago with our Revenue Roadmap was fundamentally about building the business substantially in scale – and creating value and opportunity for our people – and all our stakeholders – as a result.
“What I wanted to do was to show all those stakeholders, what kind of projects we’ve been doing to achieve that growth right across the business. Have we been doing different things? Do we have new approaches to work? What kind of projects are we doing? To get answers to these questions, we’ve quickly gone around the business and selected projects that can reveal the facts.
The focus is on targeted tendering
“These projects do show one major change – and that is in our well expressed ‘targeted tendering’ approach which has been in place across the business for a good while now. We have focused on winning projects that are generally more challenging and complex – and therefore suit our greater depth of in-house skills, technical capabilities and expertise. We have also focused on bigger projects – and that’s particularly clear in the regions. This has been a deliberate policy and well executed. But beyond that, what has changed?
Nothing else has changed
“The simple answer is – nothing! Nothing has changed and nothing is changing in the traditional TClarke Way we approach work. The ‘TClarke Way’ remains exactly what it always has been. We believe in the solidity of service delivery from the earliest phases of pre-construction onward. We believe in high quality professional skills, developed and retained in our business. We believe in building teams that clients know and trust. We believe in giving talented people the chance to lead early on in their career – and in building our depth of leadership and expertise as a critical business asset.
“These fourteen current or recent projects show increased scale in the order book from bigger more valuable projects. They also show a lot of complexity in programme and logistics. They certainly show new technologies across the board – and demonstrate just how effectively we have got into the critical new technologies and become industry leaders in each specialism.

“But above all, whether you look at a data centre or a hospital or a leisure centre, what you see is high quality engineering, delivered with an absolute focus on safety, delivered by our ‘trademarked’ approach of in-house engineering teams and expertise with a collaborative approach to work. This is our ‘special sauce’ now – just as it has always been.
