TClarke puts the call out for more female entrants

TClarke is encouraging women to explore the creative career opportunities available through TClarke apprenticeships, according to Director Aysegul Sabanci.

“Last year, TClarke embarked on a five-year mission to achieve a 25% female intake for apprenticeships and training by 2028. We have made several incremental advances, including increasing our female intake in the apprenticeship programme to 5% in 2023. By setting this target, we knew we would highlight a significant area of potential for our industry and the need for rapid progress.

“As engineering professionals, we see that for most young women currently in school and contemplating their choices, the built environment can be daunting and may not be their first choice to pursue as their career. To this extent, we are working hard to encourage them to consider the career options we can offer. We are fortunate to provide many opportunities for a fulfilling and creative career that can start with a TClarke apprenticeship programme – which is not just about immediate earning power and professional transferable skills. More than those things, it can provide a lifetime of career options.

As a mechanical engineer and a board member, I believe TClarke engineering apprenticeships are an excellent opportunity to foster creativity and thinking ‘outside the box’. While applying theory in practice, you get the chance to learn from some exceptional people. You can work in the modern ‘built environment’ where architects’ drawings are transformed into real engineering. This field offers opportunities to work on sustainable projects, to engage communities, and to design and install large-scale technology infrastructure. It demands creativity and excellence in detail, often on a vast scale, and offers a far greater and more exciting responsibility than some other jobs. This field provides career pathways ranging from electrical, software, and mechanical engineering to sustainability, safety, community engagement specialists, and quantity surveyors.

“We want women to join us, and we know we can offer them careers with high-earning prospects and further progress. We hope to see many of the young women at school now applying for our apprenticeships, recognised as the ‘Gold standard’ in our industry, for this September’s intake. We have a long way to go in reaching our target, but this target is strategically important for our business and the lives of the women involved.”
