TClarke leads pioneering green energy programme across Hertfordshire schools
5/7/21: TClarke has been appointed principal contractor to lead in two Hertfordshire school projects to replace gas fired heating systems with carbon neutral air source heat pumps. Phil Giddings, Operations Director, TClarke Huntingdon explains.
We have a longstanding relationship with Hertfordshire County Council, and we are delighted to have been appointed principal contractor to lead this project at St Mary’s School, Ware and Leavesden Green School, Watford.
These are pathway projects and the first to be funded within the SALIX Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme funding to promote and support carbon neutral alternatives for the Hertfordshire. We are looking forward to being part of these projects which will lead the way to a far wider effective adoption of carbon neutral technologies. People talk at a high level about the achievement of climate change goals around the world. This is how we are going to make it happen across Britain – so it is exciting and a big responsibility.
Our scope of works is to remove the heating systems and domestic systems within the school building along with the existing gas fired boilers and associated boiler plant and install a completely new heating system and new BMS control system.
Heat is to be generated using new carbon neutral air source heat pumps (ASHP) which will supply heat to new heat emitters consisting of radiators, to new fan convectors throughout the school. Given the COVID issues within schools generally and the use of ASHP, heat recovery units are also to be installed within classrooms to assist with additional heat and fresh air.
