TClarke Apprentice of the Year 2024 showcases depth of talent
TClarke’s Apprentice of the Year is Dan Brown, with William Codd, Max Hutchinson, Joe Love, and Lucas Williamson as runners-up. TClarke’s Group Managing Director, Mike Crowder, reflected on another very strong line up of talent as TClarke looks forward.
“In a momentous year for our business, this is yet another sign that our business remains committed to our people and to the investments we make in securing a pipeline of talent for our continuous growth and success.“
“These are five talented people who have demonstrated the qualities and skills we value at TClarke. Our reputation is shaped by people like them, and I am pleased to extend an invitation to all of them to participate in our Future Leaders Programme. I look forward to helping them build the TClarke careers they aspire to.”
William Codd, Peterborough
“It’s probably been the most interesting few years of my life, considering all the people I have met and all the things I have learned. My family is in the trade, so the chance to work with TClarke was one I wanted. What you get here is a sense of identity, pride, and constant support – knowing you always have a team behind you to answer any question. Going forward, I want to gain as many qualifications as I can and take on as much responsibility as possible – and work my way up from there.”
Lucas Williamson, Scotland
“I had other options, but when I did my research, I learned that the training and career opportunities with TClarke are second to none. My experience has proved that fact – the tradesmen I work with have so much experience, and I’ve learned a lot from them. I think over the last few years, there has been a massive change in me that people have noticed. I’m more confident now, based on being more knowledgeable and experienced. Now I am looking forward to the Future Leaders course.”
Joe Love, Newcastle
“When I had my interview with TClarke, I initially thought it went terribly! However, I was fortunate to get through and I must say that I have thoroughly enjoyed my apprenticeship, especially during the last year when I worked on a major project in Scarborough. This experience has allowed me to build strong relationships, learn quickly, and mature rapidly. TClarke provides the opportunity to learn a wide range of skills. Looking ahead, my immediate plan is to continue working with the tools, expand my knowledge, and develop further based on that.”
Max Hutchinson, Portishead
“TClarke is a financially strong and stable firm, which is a key part of its appeal. After completing my A levels with A* grades, I was considering a career in food, nutrition, and catering. However, I had concerns about the long hours required in the food industry. At that time, a family friend recommended that I consider the construction industry and spoke highly of TClarke. I am currently in my second year of a 5-year Chartered Surveyor’s qualification, and my experience with TClarke has been excellent. In the future, I am eager to progress in my career, climb the ranks, and broaden my project experience, and I believe TClarke is the best place for me to achieve these goals.”
Dan Brown, London
“I’ve always been interested in engineering, and since my family is in construction, my original plan was to pursue a degree in the field. However, after completing my A Levels and with the onset of Covid, I had a change of heart. I realised that while I still wanted to work in the industry, I needed practical experience and real site knowledge to effectively lead construction projects. This led me to pursue an apprenticeship, and TClarke stood out as the top choice in the industry. Starting my apprenticeship after A-levels allowed me to mature and develop the skills necessary to deliver high-quality work within tight deadlines. In fact, I completed my apprenticeship in just 3 years, which I believe may be a record for the company. Winning this award is a great honour for me, and I truly appreciate the support from a company that values and nurtures homegrown talent like no other. TClarke’s approach is truly unique and unparalleled.”
