Smart Buildings: This is going to be big: Our offering is unique and will support our customers in this challenging sector!
31/1/22: Simon Lee, Director of TClarke’s Technology team, has led the strategy to put TClarke among the leaders in the UK for smart buildings technology, taking the key strategic role as MSI (master systems integrator) for major projects. Here he explains how big this opportunity is.
Smart Buildings – a major incremental opportunity for our group
Smart Buildings are quickly becoming the ‘must have’ feature in new and existing buildings. Smart building technology is enabling property owners to get the most out of their buildings from both ends of the spectrum by simply allowing their building to be “Smart Ready” of “Fully Integrated” regardless of age of building capability, there is an opportunity to embrace the future.
A Smart Building essentially means that by extracting data from the plant and equipment that is utilised for the building’s operation, the building can be optimised in its use of energy and continually provide reports on specific items that are critical in achieving the owners’ targets. Smart platforms become the brain that utilises BMS (Building Management Systems) which acts as a central system to connect and extract data. This allows algorithms to be run that not only display live information via dashboards but also assist with predictive maintenance and allow centralised management of property portfolios that can be tailored to suit. This is just one example of integration but the demand for this information to be centralised on a ‘Single Pane of Glass’ measuring a building’s data is possible.
Net Zero adds immediate momentum for large complex buildings
There has never been a better time to put smart technology at the heart of your programmes and planning, for new and older buildings. Energy efficiency and carbon reduction are huge issues for everyone involved in business right now and smart technology can play a key role in reducing emissions and helping companies become more sustainable. Older buildings are the biggest consumers of energy and will undoubtedly be one of the key areas under scrutiny as the government works towards its target to reduce carbon emissions by at least 100% of 1990 levels (net zero) by 2050.
Leaders of blue chip organisations have evaluated the evidence and are converting to a smart buildings approach and trusting TClarke to deliver this for them. Likewise, within the public sector the NHS are investing in Smart Building Frameworks and TClarke has been selected as a company of choice to support this.
Taking the lead as Master Systems Integrator
Most importantly, we have developed our skills and credibility and can take the lead as Master Systems Integrator (MSI) on any project, taking responsibility for full integration of services so that smart automation is both possible and effective.
We are in a strong position. Our selection as MSI, a smart platform provider on a number of key projects and for being selected for the NHS Smart Buildings Framework, confirms this.
