TClarke’s Group MD, Mike Crowder, who has responsibility for safety, spoke for the whole company:
‘Josh has achieved his MSc in Occupational Health and Safety Management, while leading major safety campaigns and projects for TClarke. This award recognises an active professional; working hard, day to day to keep our people safe at work.
‘Our safety teams across the country lead the construction industry, both in innovation and the effectiveness of our campaigns. Josh has played a major role in that and we are delighted he’s been identified as an outstanding achiever, it is well deserved.
In their launch of the 40 under 40 list, Health + Safety At Work’s citation explained why their panel of expert judges selected Josh:
‘Josh Bourne is described as having a natural flair for Health and Safety, with the ability to represent both the individuals on site and the interests of his employer. He is known for not ducking difficult issues and ensuring that all action points are closed out effectively.
‘His career began seven years ago, joining specialist building services contractor TClarke as a Health and Safety Adviser, then gaining promotions in parallel with NEBOSH qualifications. The culmination is an MSc in Occupational Health and Safety Management from Loughborough University, gained while working full time.
‘At TClarke, Bourne is responsible for overseeing and auditing Health and Safety procedures in the London region, including high profile projects changing the London skyline, like the “Walkie-Talkie” and 22 Bishopsgate, set to be one of the tallest buildings in London.
‘His academic achievements have been achieved in a relatively short timescale – quite commendable considering his work achievements’
‘He has undertaken training to be a facilitator for “Alkoomi” workshops, a behavioural change methodology created by the Eponymous Management Consultancy. This involves delivering three-hour workshops to diverse groups, to forge collaborative project teams committed to the goal of zero accidents.
‘Josh has gone above and beyond in the assistance he affords to others. He excels in communicating’
‘A key project he has been developing and implementing is a smartphone app for near miss reporting, called ‘You See, You Say’. In addition, Bourne was filmed for TClarke’s in-house TV channel demonstrating the app (also available on YouTube). His versatility has been evident in working with an outsourced team of designers to develop a poster campaign under the strapline “Would You?”.
‘He is known for taking a rigorous eye to every document that crosses his desk, taking good pastoral care of team members, junior colleagues and apprentices and making every interaction a positive one.’
