Emma Nichols is a winner as TClarke goes out to get next generation
11/3/19: National Apprenticeship Week may be over, but our work to find and inspire the next generation goes on all the time. On Saturday, Emma Nichols of TClarke South West won recognition at the Building Plymouth Apprenticeship Fair, as South West MD, Rob Faro, reports.
Emma was The Ron Simmonds Construction Trade Apprentice Winner at the Building Plymouth Apprenticeship Fair, this is a great bit of recognition for her personally – and the tremendous effort she puts into her work and her career at TClarke.
Following the presentation of the award Emma said: ‘I’m a bit overwhelmed but very proud, I would 100% recommend apprenticeships, we need more females to join the construction industry. TClarke have been very supportive throughout my apprenticeship’.
Building Plymouth is a council-led partnership that connects local people with career opportunities in the varied world of construction and the built environment in Plymouth. Emma Hewitt, Building Plymouth Skills Co-ordinator and organiser of Plymouth’s Construction Apprentice of the Year Awards said: “ We were inundated with nominations for the Trade Apprentice of the Year Awards 2019, with 22 Finalists to choose from it was tough competition indeed. However Emma stood out for the judges and has now been recognised as the city’s top Trade Apprentice. As a Project Sponsor of our Building Plymouth partnership, TClarke supports our construction career inspiration activities and only the day before these awards, Emma and Alice Robinson were on site at The Box speaking with Year 5 female students from St Andrews Primary School – she is a great ambassador for the industry and her case study provides another opportunity to promote that we want more females to join us”.
Taking the wider perspective, the fact that TClarke was there, promoting our apprenticeships, talking to young people and adult entrants, showing them the quality of our training and the motivation and progression of our people, is another signal that TClarke’s long term commitment to training and apprenticeship is paying dividends.
We know that there is a tremendous pool of homegrown talent across Britain – and we know how to deliver real jobs and high quality careers for the right people. Emma is living proof of that and we are all delighted for her.
