Building the TClarke Way in Manchester

10/12/19 : Behind the growth of TClarke in the North West is a consistent approach to talent development which is as strong in new offices like Manchester as it is in London. Shaun Hudson and Jacob Dowling are two young engineers working in our Manchester office who have recently graduated as part of the first cohort in the TClarke Future Leaders programme. 

Although both young men, they already have a total of 23 years with the company, having both joined as Apprentices. Jacob tells his story :

“I joined in 2006 and built my career steadily, acquiring new skills and expressing my interest to take on more professional capabilities and training. I did my SSSTS Course in 2014 and progressed to Site Supervisor. In June 2016 I expressed an interest in going further and I was advised to undertake a degree in Building Services and Sustainable Engineering. In November that year I was invited onto TClarke’s Future Leadership programme and in 2017 moved into the role of mechanical estimator.

“I’d say TClarke’s secret ingredient is the fact that TClarke as a business are willing to invest time and resource into my development and future. It makes me feel like a valuable asset to the business. It is extremely motivating and you can see how they stay the course with you. This is what builds the long-term approach to quality work that the company is known for.”

Shaun Hudson joined the company in 2009 as an apprentice, as he explains:

“My story is similar in that I joined as an Apprentice, qualified as an Electrican, became an Approved Electrician in 2015 and then having joined the Future Leaders Programme, I completed my HNC in Electrical and Electronic Engineering in 2016, completed my HND in Project and Quality Management in 2018 and then at the start of this year began my BSc in Quantity Surveying.”
