Blazing a Trail for Quality Opportunities
4/3/19: Creating apprenticeships has never been that hard – creating constistently excellent ones takes a lot more. TClarke has 130 years experience of creating some of the best engineering apprenticeships in Britain.
Sam Wright – First Year Apprentice – London
The experienced TClarke electricians I am working with have decades of expertise to share – so I’m getting a masterclass in the trade – it is unbeatable.
My name is Sam Wright. I’m a first year apprentice. My story goes back to last year when I was doing a Level 2 Electrical Installation course at College and they told me “Next year will be all theory”. ‘All theory’ didn’t suit me at all, but when I applied around for apprenticeships, nothing came back.
Very luckily for me, James Rowe, who was a TClarke apprentice, lives nearby, and I ran into him one day and he said “Do you you know TClarke? It’s a very good company!” He told me more and so, I immediately asked if he could introduce me to the company. Fortunately for me, the rest is history and honestly, since I’ve started here, it has been the best decision I’ve made; I really like it!
With so much of the apprenticeship being hands-on learning, the knowledge is sticking in my head. I’m lucky to be working on 22 Bishopsgate – one of the biggest construction projects anywhere – and at nearly 300 metres one of the tallest! The whole experience has given me a real boost. I’ve been working as high as level 41 so far !
Jonathan Mulika – First Year Apprentice – London
I will tell you frankly that I am ‘living the dream’! My TClarke apprenticeship is proving to be way better than I had hoped. The people are lovely, everybody is friendly and above all they are willing to help.
I was at college doing a Level 3 Diploma in Electrical Installation, so the learning was going well but what I really needed was some work experience. At the same time, I was working onsite in a general construction role at Battersea Power Station and when TClarke were appointed, I saw the opportunity and talked to various people, which led me to interviews with TClarke and then to this apprenticeship.
I will tell you frankly that I am living the dream! The TClarke apprenticeship is proving to be better than I had hoped. The work is way more fun than I had thought, the people are lovely, everbody is friendly and above all they are willing to help. So yes: living the dream is how I state it!
What they expect from you is very clear. You need to be punctual, hardworking and not lazy. In return though, you get so much help and support – not just in learning but for you as a person. We recently were introduced to the “Time to Talk’ programme that helps you if you have mental concerns. This is a very good idea and it impressed me.
My ‘big picture’ is that at the end of my apprenticeship I am looking forward to getting into electrical design. I see great opportunities at TClarke to work in that area. If you know what you want to achieve here, people are ready to help you – it is that simple.
Aydan Alexander – Fourth Year Apprentice – Scotland
I can see where the company wants to go in the future and I would like to be part of it. I am happy learning the job hands-on, but later in my career, I would like to progress into the management team, and maybe even further.
When I was 17 years old I got the opportunity to work for TClarke at the Falkirk office. Now three and a half years on, I’m coming to the end of my mechanical engineering apprenticeship where I have gained many valuable skills in my trade, learning all aspects of the job. I do see myself turning into a young engineer for the company. During my apprenticeship I have been at Forth Valley College on day release for three and a half years where I have achieved a National Certificate, an SVQ level 2, and hopefully in May 2019 my Higher National Certificate.
I have really enjoyed my time with TClarke, I can see where the company want to go in the future and I would like to be part of it. I am happy learning the job hands on, but later in my career I would like to progress into the management team, and maybe even further. TClarke are an excellent company to work for and I’m proud to say I’m part of it.
